2020 is barely visible in the rearview window, but that is the last year for any type of growth plan, as communicated by the district. Vision 2020 is no longer applicable, and the landscape since then is barely recognizable as population growth booms and prices only continue to skyrocket. If we want the Big Walnut School District to continue to afford our students a top quality education (inclusive of academics and life skills), we need to plan for the future! And even more importantly, this plan needs to be communicated to the public. We need to make sure that the district can afford to take any necessary steps to act in the best interests of our students and tax payers by ensuring the community feels informed and and encouraged to offer feedback so that any efforts to fund future educational endeavors are met with enthusiasm and support.
When the state pays their fair share, as outlined in the bipartisan Fair School Funding Act, it shifts the financial burden from property taxes and levies over to state allocated funds, giving our resident the relief we need.
I will continue to advocate to our lawmakers to do right by our children and our community. We pay our taxes. It's our legislatures duty to responsibly manage that money by fairly funding projects that benefit our communities (like Public Education) rather than padding the pockets of wealthy campaign donors.
Not every child learns the same. Some need a little more support, in order to achieve their potential, while others need a greater challenge.
Instead of standardizing our children, I believe in supporting the creation of IEPs and WEPs on a case by case basis. We treat out children as individuals with different needs when they are home under our care; why should it be any different when we send them off to school?
When we meet every child where they are, we set them up for success. This isn't a crazy ideology. It's a sound a proven methodology for personal growth and achievement. As I parent, I want my child to be given every opportunity and resource available to ensure he thrives. I haven't met another parent yet who feels any differently.
